Türkiye’s Most Comprehensive and Widely Reached Addiction Prevention Program
Addiction continues to pose a growing threat to people of all ages, taking on new forms and affecting wider segments of society. Supporting young people through preventive and protective initiatives and raising awareness both within schools and across the nation about the harms of tobacco, alcohol, substance, technology, and other addictions has become more critical than ever.
Since 1920, the Turkish Green Crescent Society has been at the forefront of addiction prevention efforts. Drawing on scientific best practices and addressing gaps in existing prevention initiatives in Türkiye, Green Crescent developed the Green Crescent Addiction Prevention Training Program (TBM) a comprehensive, community-based approach that unites school- and family-oriented methods to mobilize all segments of society in addressing addiction.
Aligned with Türkiye’s social structure, educational priorities, and existing education system, Green Crescent Addiction Prevention Training Program (TBM) was implemented as an effective, action-oriented plan for addressing addiction. The program aims to raise awareness about addiction among children and youth in Türkiye, with the ultimate goal of helping them lead safer and healthier lives.
This universal, evidence-based training program is designed to minimize the risk of developing addictive behaviors. Through TBM, Green Crescent seeks to raise awareness across society particularly among children and youth about the harms associated with tobacco, alcohol, substance, and technology addiction, and to prevent these behaviors through knowledge and awareness.
For the first time in Türkiye, a program addressing addiction on such a large scale has been implemented. Developed with input from field experts, the TBM was designed to be applicable across the entire country, in line with Türkiye’s sociological characteristics, needs, and education system.
All training materials used in the program were prepared by a professional team, including the Green Crescent Scientific Committee, through a scientific and evidence-based approach. The content is modular and tailored to each age group. TBM also employs innovative educational tools to effectively engage children and youth through both in person and digital learning environments, supported by books and interactive materials.
